The Cowboy Cross is an electric bike ideal for urban journeys, but also for walks in the forest thanks to new components. A versatile model that can currently be found priced at 3,499 euros instead of 3,999 euros on the brand’s website during the French Days.

It was last March that the Belgian brand Cowboy lifted the veil on a new electric bike which is quite different from the other models in its catalog: the Cowboy Cross. The latter belongs to the family of all-road bikes and is therefore not reserved for urban journeys, as are the manufacturer’s other references, because it can also venture into the forest or other small paths that are less stable than in the city. We had the opportunity to test this Cowboy Cross very quickly, and it gave us a very good impression. We appreciate it even more when it is on sale (-500 euros!), like currently during the French Days.

The strong points of the Cowboy Cross

  • A robust VAE
  • Wide, comforting tires and suspension fork
  • A motor with 45 Nm of torque
  • The Live Challenges, rather nice

Instead of 3,999 euros, the Cowboy Cross is now available on sale for 3,499 euros on the Cowboy website. Don’t forget that you are also entitled to state aid, which varies depending on your location in the national territory.

A very robust all-road e-bike

The Cowboy Cross is a new VAE which retains the aesthetic philosophy of the Belgian brand. That is to say that it is sober, elegant and refined like its peers; in short, an electric bike which has character and which frankly stands out from the competition for that reason. The Cowboy Cross, however, turns out to be much more robust than the manufacturer’s other references, since it belongs to the range of all-terrain bikes and must therefore offer better solidity for traveling on unstable roads. For example, it is equipped with imposing (and therefore reassuring) 60 mm wide tires, which in practice promise better grip and additional comfort on the road. This robustness, however, has a disadvantage: the Cowboy Cross is quite heavy. It weighs 27.9 kg, which could make it significantly more difficult to transport.

On this VTC, we also find an inverted suspended front fork, which offers a modest travel of 40 mm, which should be quite sufficient for trail rides and considerably improves driving comfort thanks to the effective filtering of road roughness. . The saddle is also suspended, which increases overall comfort. The handlebars are quite wide, which, according to the brand, allows you to tire your upper body less on the road. But keep in mind that due to this design, the bike is less versatile and it will require a lot of dexterity to move between cars, for example.

Great performance on the road

The Cowboy Cross is also equipped with a rear motor capable of delivering a torque of 45 Nm. On the road, this VTC promises dynamic, natural and linear driving in terms of acceleration. Concerning the Tektro hydraulic disc brakes, they are unfortunately not sharp enough, as we noticed during our handling. Be careful with emergency braking. In addition, the bike also features AdaptivePower technology, which allows it to instantly adapt to each type of road and to climb slopes, even steep ones, more easily without forcing us to pedal more.

Let’s now move on to the connected aspect of the bike and its many features that you can enjoy from your smartphone, which can also be attached to the bike. Note for example a new software, Check My Bike, which allows you to monitor the performance of the bike and diagnose possible hiccups. There are also Live Challenges, which are live challenges with short, more or less intense exercises to measure your performance. Not to be carried out in the city, of course, where caution is required… Finally, in terms of autonomy, the Cowboy Cross integrates a 540 Wh battery, for a range ranging from 60 to 120 km depending on the assistance mode chosen.
