There, as in the international competition organized by the International Radiological Protection Association, the Doctor of physics and nuclear engineer presented his work on calibration of radiation protection instruments without radioactive source. An industrial process unique in the world which made the difference in front of the different juries.

Atron Metrology, four sectors of activity

Atron Metrology, a subsidiary of Cerap Prevention created in 2017, employs two people in the Vindits area of Cherbourg-Octeville. Atron Metrology’s activity is divided into four sectors:
– calibration of radiation protection instruments;
– the qualification of equipment under irradiation, for example for the space sector;
– the analysis and measurement of potentially radioactive samples;
– advice and expertise in radiation protection.
Arnaud Chapon is the scientific and technical manager.

“As part of a final year project and then during my thesis, we developed this process with Atron Metrology, thanks to the particle acceleratorprecisely of electrons, that we possess. It works very well indeed better than the classic process. We patented it. We now use it for several of our clients such as EDF or the Cotentin Public Hospital Center, which must calibrate their instruments every three years; that’s the rule in ,” explains the former EnsiCaen student.

I was quite surprised to win first prize. I didn’t necessarily go there to win. The other candidates made very interesting presentations. I am delighted that this prize will help to promote the Atron Metrology company.
