According to 9to5mac, the software bug is due to the algorithm for rejecting accidental touches, which may be a little too sensitive, even to touches that aren’t accidental.
Some users report that the issue is particularly noticeable when they try to touch their screen on the top right corner. In reality, the issue affects all corners of the screen. Also note that this bug only seems to be effective when the screen is unlocked: in other words, when it is locked, the touchscreen works correctly, which corroborates 9to5mac’s theory that the source of the problem is software. Given the general frustration of users, there is no doubt that Apple should offer an imminent update to fix the problem in a few days.
