Wind River announces the availability of eLxr Pro, a new commercial enterprise Linux offering designed to address the unique needs of cloud-to-edge deployments. eLxr Pro is built on the eLxr open source project.
LDisruptions at enterprise vendors, such as CentOS’ end-of-life in June 2024, have forced CIOs to reevaluate their Linux vendors. Wind River didn’t want to miss this opportunity and is offering its own solution, believing that “ Current options are often too limited or too complex, resulting in implementations that fail to meet the dynamic requirements of this rapidly evolving segment. “.
The new eLxr Pro offering features long-term commercial support and enterprise distribution services. It is built on the open source eLxr project, a Linux distribution based on Debian. Why this choice? Wind River is a founding member of the eLxr project.
The American company is targeting a wide range of emerging use cases, including autonomous vehicles, aerospace, defense, energy, finance, medicine, industrial automation, smart cities and telecommunications.
The eLxr project remains freely available to users, distributed under open source licenses. It bundles existing Debian packages, optimized for performance, enhanced security, and a minimal footprint needed to run industry-specific workloads.
