Mattel’s famous brand has been around for over sixty years and continues to fascinate today, perhaps even more so thanks to the feature film released last year. This time, Barbie is partnering with the Kodak brand to encourage young people to develop a passion for photography.

We know the Kodak brand mainly for its role in the field of photography by marketing many devices. The latter offer a new range of cameras in the colors of the most famous brand of plastic dolls: Barbie. No doubt driven by the success of Greta Gerwig’s film released last year, Kodak will launch a dedicated instant printing device.

This Barbie range consists of a white and pink tinted instant camera as well as a portable photo printer that allows you to develop photos by adding filters and frames reminiscent of the world of Mattel. In both cases, the models will be offered in two different shades of pink. The camera will use Zink (zero ink) technology which does not require ink and will have a five-megapixel lens.

At IFA 2024, we were able to take a look at the future products and ask a few questions about the origin of this unexpected collaboration. It made a lot of sense actually. Kodak and Barbie are two brands with a great history, they’ve been around for a very long time. Barbie inspires young children to grow up and do great things, Kodak has a very similar philosophy, especially with their instant print cameras. They want to teach young people to love photography, and instant print is often the first step. So yeah, this collaboration made a lot of sense, and everyone loves Barbie.”, Chloe Larby, Senior Account Executive at Grithaus Agency, told us.

She also returned to the usefulness that these instant printing devices can take: “It is a unique way to create something through photography and create new memories. We can see the results being used for a whole bunch of things, for example for storage and organization, the device is also used during weddings for guest books… Imagination is the only limit.”.

The camera is expected to be offered for €99.99 and its portable photo printer for around €130. In any case, these different devices should appear during this month of November 2024.
