Competitor, installation… everything you need to know about the Altstore, this first alternative application store on iPhone

Since this Wednesday, iPhone users in Europe can use an application store other than the famous Apple Store on their smartphone. It’s called Altstore.

Apple’s competitor

To have applications on your iPhone, it is now possible to use something other than the App store to download them. Apple, which had to comply with the new European regulation, the Digital Market Act (DMA), the bitten apple brand authorizes alternative application stores, reports BFMTV.

Altstrore therefore appears to be a real competitor. But it is very limited, since for the moment, only two applications can be downloaded: the first is Detla, a Nintendo console emulator (which gives access to games from Nintendo 64, Game Boy, etc.); the second is Clip, a clipboard manager for iOS, details the information channel.

Other applications should be available soon.

The hard installation

But installing Altstore on the iPhone is not that simple, we explain the process to you. Here are the 6 steps to follow:

1. First, you have to go to the alternative store website, only via the Safari browser (on the iPhone);
2. the Altstore is not free, you will therefore have to pay an annual subscription of 1.80 euros then click on “download”;
3. several pop-up windows should appear, you must accept the first one which is called “Installation of the online marketplace”;
4. You must then go to the iPhone settings, click on the banner “Authorize the online marketplace from the developer Altstore, LLC”, specifies BFMTV ;
5. on a new page that appears, you must authorize and authenticate either with Face ID, Touch ID or the lock code, then click on “install” and “continue”;
6. If everything went well, the Altstore app is available on your home screen.
