We tested Apple Invitations, and it’s surprising

Apple is launching a new app: Apple Invitations. To… invite your friends to events.

Prepare to be amazed: Apple has just reinvented … The invitation. Yes, you read that right.

No equipment here, but an app. With the launch of Apple Invitations (Invites In English), the Cupertino firm tries a new foray into the social field, but this time with a different approach. This event planning application, exclusively reserved for iCloud plus subscriberspromises to simplify the organization of our meetings. But what is it really worth? We were able to try it.

A complicated social history

Before diving into the details of Apple Prist, let us recall the previous attempts of Apple in the social field.

In 2010, the company launched Ping, a musical social network integrated into iTunes which was a resounding failure and closed its doors two years later.

More recently, the Group Facetime application, open to Android smartphones, although always active, has never managed to win against competitors like Zoom or Google Meet.

These failures are often explained by an overly closed approach to the Apple ecosystem and a limited understanding of the social needs of users.

An application between tradition and innovation

Apple Invites offers several interesting features. Note the integration of the AI for the generation of background images via Image Playground. The possibility of adding collaborative playlists via Apple Music is also there, even if it remains limited to service subscribers.

The interface, faithful to Apple standards, is intended to be purified. Users can easily create invitations in a few clicks, add photos from their library, and share the event via a simple link.

Integration with plans and weather adds a practical layer to experience, this allows guests to instantly know the planned weather and the route to get to the event.

However, the choice to reserve the creation of invitations to iCloud plus subscribers is strange. At 0.99 € per minimum month, this barrier at the entrance could slow down the massive adoption of the application, particularly with the new generation which is currently pleasing Partiful In the United States, its free competitor.

The post-event shared album function is interesting, it allows participants to contribute with their photos and videos. Hence the “relive” the app of the app.

Of course, your Android friends will have to settle for a web link to respond to your invitations. Because in Apple, social inclusion begins with technological exclusion (it hurts).

However, the application seems to lack originality in its global approach. Many features are directly inspired by existing services, and innovation lies mainly in integration with the Apple ecosystem rather than in a real concept revolution.

Available only on iOS 18 and subsequent versions, via a native app and via a website.
