The Android Airdrop finally catches up with Apple on a crucial point

Quick Share will finally integrate the possibility of switching to mobile data in the event of an unstable connection. Enough to catch up with Galaxy smartphones and iPhone.
Quick Share, the equivalent of Airdrop for Android, receives an important update. The system that allows you to transfer files quickly from one device to another is resting for the time on Bluetooth and WiFi. After Android Policethe new version of the Google Play services, which manages many features on Android, allows Quick Share to go through mobile data.
Galaxy smartphones are already able to achieve this feat, but only between Galaxy devices. Likewise, Airdrop has joined this possibility since iOS 17, released in 2023. In the coming weeks, while the update is deployed, all Android smartphones will be able to take advantage of it. To do this, you have to wait for version 25.04 of the Google Play Services.
How does it work concretely?
More concretely, the new update should allow that a transfer does not interrupt when the connection is lost or unstable. In this case, the interface should offer you to switch to mobile data.
We can already see a similar adjustment on one UI 7, the last interface of Samsung based on Android 15. “Authorizing internet sharing”it allows “If a direct connection to the other device is unavailable or unstable, allow sharing on the Internet via Wi-Fi or mobile data”.
If at first glance, that does not break the barracks, the addition of mobile data in the Quick Share protocol should still make it more robust and easy to use. Unexpected disconnections can indeed discourage its long -term use. This undoubtedly participates in the fact that Quick Share is much less known and used than Apple’s Airdrop, appreciated for its reliability.
