Indeed, among the star items of this sale (in addition to a model of Apple Computer-1 sold for nearly $316,000) were historical Polaroid photographs related to the brand and the history of its founder, Steve Jobs. There was a first series of three Polaroids representing the first Apple computer, the Computer-1, which were probably made by Steve Jobs himself for a certain Paul Terell in 1976, owner of the computer store Byte Shop and the very first Apple reseller.

The Polaroids show Steve Jobs’ Apple-1 prototype board (then designated “Apple Computer A”) connected to an unshrouded Amkey keyboard and a standard CRT video monitor. One photo shows a bird’s eye view of the setup, another shows a close-up of the computer board itself, and the third shows the computer in action, with a program running on the screen that ends with, “This is the Apple Computer-1.” This lot sold for $54,904, or over €49,000.

There was especially a series of portraits, always made with a Polaroid representing the founders of the company NeXT Computer, including Steve Jobs, which served as a reference in 1985 to make the first employee badges of the company. For the record, the company NeXT Computer was created by Steve Jobs following his forced resignation from Apple Computer. This lot was sold for $12,501 or more than €11,000.

Finally, still on the photo side during this sale, an Apple QuickTake 100 Digital Camera was sold for the much more modest sum of $330. And then know that there are Instax (yes, it is becoming difficult to make Polaroids…) of the editorial staff of Numériques. Who knows, one day soon, the portraits of the editorial staff will be put up for auction!
