Sony’s exclusive closes 15 days after launch

Launched on August 23, 2024, the video game Concord will already close its doors due to lack of interest from players.

The situation was urgent as the number of players had fallen dramatically low in recent days – around 50 players on average on Steam – and the news surprised no one: Sony’s exclusive, available on PS5 and PC, Concordwill already close its doors, fifteen days after its initial launch.

A closure 15 days after its launch

Developed by Firewalk Studios, the title will see its servers shut down on September 6, 2024. On this date, all players will be reimbursed, on PC as well as on Playstation 5, including the physical version.

Does this mean the game won’t be coming back? It’s hard to say, but Sony doesn’t mince its words. On its official website, the manufacturer mentions that it has taken into account player feedback: “We recognize that other aspects of the game and our initial launch did not have the impact we had hoped for.”

Sony plans to explore “other options,” without going into details. Still, there aren’t dozens of alternatives for the sequel, while Concord was released after 8 years of development and a budget of 200 million dollars, according to Gamerant. An XXL budget that makes it difficult to resume active development, with the sole aim of saving the game.

After a peak at launch of 2,388 players, Concord had suffered a sharp drop in active players on Steam, dropping below 100 simultaneous players in recent days. According to Circana analyst Matt Piscatella, quoted by IGN, sales had also not been up to par, with around 10,000 units sold on PC, and 15,000 on PlayStation 5.

The game was intended to be a serious competitor to Overwatcha first-person shooter featuring different heroes with diverse abilities and which is completely free. Players ultimately never answered the call of this universe strongly reminiscent of that of Guardians of the Galaxy.
