Twitter’s blocking in Brazil is good news for its competitor Bluesky, which is breaking records

The suspension of X (formerly Twitter) in Brazil was beneficial for Bluesky, which gained a million new users in three days.

One man’s misfortune is another man’s gain. In Brazil, X (ex-Twitter)’s troubles with the law have been beneficial to its competitor, Bluesky. On the orders of Brazilian Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Moraes, Elon Musk’s social network has been banned since Friday, August 30.

A decision taken after the platform refused to appoint a legal representative in the country. This suspension allowed Bluesky to gain many users. In the space of three days, the social network accessible to all since February welcomed a million new users, as it rejoiced in a publication.

Bluesky and Threads, favorites in Brazil

Launched at the initiative of Jack Dorsey, former CEO of Twitter, Bluesky began to record “record activity” as soon as Elon Musk’s social network was suspended on August 30. According to the firm Sensortower, the platform also rose to the number one spot among free applications on iPhone in Brazil, to the great delight of its CEO, Jay Graber. “Bravo Brazil, you made the right choice,” he wrote on Bluesky on August 31.

For now, X’s competitor still occupies first place in this ranking, just ahead of Threads, Meta’s social network and another rival of Elon Musk’s platform.

Since X’s suspension, he has also attacked Alexandre de Moraes several times on his social network. “He should be dismissed for violating his oath of office,” he wrote in his most recent publication, this Monday, September 2.
