iPhone 16 is easier to repair, thanks to the European Union

-

The iPhone 16’s battery is easier to remove, in line with a European Union law that requires them to be user-replaceable by 2027.

Unveiled on Monday, September 9, the iPhone 16 has better durability than its predecessors, according to Apple. This is thanks in particular to its battery. “The internal design of the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus has also been redesigned to house an even larger battery and dissipate heat, while facilitating possible interventions on the battery,” the company indicates in the press release presenting the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus.

In other words, the battery of these two smartphones can be easily removed and replaced. As the American site Macrumors points out, this change is linked to a European law, which requires smartphone manufacturers to allow users to easily replace batteries by 2027.

A change reserved for the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus

Even before the iPhone 16 was unveiled, rumors were already announcing that this law would have an impact on the repairability of its battery. While Apple does not go into details, we will have to wait until its new smartphones are disassembled by specialists, such as iFixit, to find out the method chosen by the company to make the battery easily removable.

Note that Apple does not mention the presence of such a battery for its iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. It is therefore possible that these changes only concern the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus. A disassembly of the first two will also allow us to know if this is the case.
