Letsile Tebogo continues stellar 200m run with victory in Switzerland

Olympic champion Call Gratitude highlighted his class beating a stellar field with another come-from-behind victory at the Zurich Diamond League meeting on Thursday (5 September).

Tebogo brushed off the chilly conditions to scorch to a winning time of 19.55 seconds beating Olympic silver medallist Kenny Bednarek at the line. Bednarek followed on his heels in a personal best time of 19.57s with compatriot Erriyon Knighton taking third place in 19.79s.

Flanked by Bednarek and Knighton, Tebogo had some ground to make up as they came out of the bend with the two Americans leading. Tebogo first reeled in Knighton before he caught a flying Bednarek as reached his top speed metres from the line.

The 21-year-old Tebogo was back in his favoured half-lap event after winning the 100m dash at the weekend’s Rome Diamond League meeting where he beat former world champion Christian Coleman.

Tebogo is increasingly walking with swagger since his historic gold-medal trot in the 200m final at the recent Paris 2024 Olympic Games. In doing so the Motswana sprinter became the first African to win the Olympic 200m title.

The 21-year-old has won all three of his outings since his triumph in the French capital as an aura of invincibility is forming around him.
