“WHAT, YOU HAVE NO IDEA!” How Bora Đorđević snapped at Egon Savina for calling it “Fish Stew”

ALTHOUGH the life of Bora Đorđević hung in the balance for days, those who loved him until the last moment hoped that he would win this battle as well. That’s why this morning’s news caught everyone off guard, and time will tell what kind of void he left behind. Few are those who saw the versatility and greatness of Bora’s gift during his lifetime. Among them is the director Egon Savin, a friend from the bench at FDU, for whose two plays he composed the music – the iconic “Dark Night” and “The Nineties”. He shared some of his best memories with “Novosti”:

– He had a big heart. Always positive, ready for any type of work. He loved the theater very much and was attached to it. That story that he wanted to be an actor is not true. If he wanted to act, he would. He sat with me on the bench during theoretical courses at FDU. He finished theater production and was an excellent student. We hung out a lot, although he is two years older than me. He probably enrolled at FDU afterwards – says Savin and adds:

– I remember one evening, in the famous penitentiary. I was sitting with Marina Koljubajev, and he and Bajaga were at the next table. Bora approached me and asked what I thought about calling the group “Fish Soup”. I said it’s irrelevant, how can a rock group be called “Fish Soup”?! It looks like the name of a tambourine orchestra. He snapped at me: “Oh, you have no idea!” … He composed wonderful music, and so are his lyrics. He was not recognized enough. They write about him as a composer and lyricist. No, he is a great poet. Like Leonard Cohen or Bob Dylan. His verses are of exceptional value. He also wrote popular things, and worked to be accepted by the masses. But he also left extremely exclusive texts that, in my opinion, are pure poetry. Bora is unique and magnificent, the most outstanding person of Serbian rock and roll. I don’t know who I would put in front of him… A true rocker of the American-English school. We had few of those. The Last of the Mohicans of Serbian, fierce rock.
