Zweifel Pomy-Chips has been producing the famous chips since 1958. The company is now separating from Pomy. The new name is intended to reflect the realignment that has been initiated in recent years.

The full company name Zweifel Pomy-Chips was only known to a few people. Pomy is an abbreviation for French fries. The fantasy name created by owner Hans Heinrich Zweifel was integrated into the company name in 1958. For strategic reasons, the word is now being removed from the company name, the company announced. It is now called Zweifel Chips & Snacks.

In recent years, Zweifel has continuously expanded its product range in addition to the famous French fries. In 2020, the company took over Berger Backwaren, thereby increasing its focus on the sweet market. In 2023, Zweifel also launched Vaya waffles, entering the snack segment. Current CEO Christoph Zweifel, son of Hans Heinrich Zweifel, is quoted in the press release as saying: “With the two brands Zweifel and Berger, we offer snacks in the salty and sweet ranges, covering every snacking moment.”

The reorientation towards snacks is also reflected in the construction of the new snack factory in Spreitenbach for 40 million francs, for which construction work is currently underway. The factory is scheduled to go into operation in summer 2027.

The new name is intended to reflect this development. With the strategic reorientation, the company is reacting to the changing consumer behavior, which includes snacking around the clock, the statement says. “We see ourselves as a 24/7 snacking provider. This means that we can offer the right snack for every occasion. From the Vaya waffle for a morning snack to the Berger Spitzbueb as a dessert after lunch to Zweifel chips for an aperitif,” Christoph Zweifel is quoted as saying.

With the new corporate brand, Zweifel also wants to have a stronger external presence in the future. “We want to continue to attract the best specialists and reinforce our commitment to sustainability,” says the CEO. The company has already been named the best employer in Switzerland twice.
