Track worker hit by train between Schlieren and Altstetten

A track worker was hit by a passing S-Bahn train on Tuesday on the line between Schlieren and Zurich-Altstetten. The 28-year-old man suffered such severe injuries that the emergency doctor could only confirm the man’s death.

The accident occurred shortly after 8 a.m. when track work was being carried out between Schlieren and Altstetten, according to the Zurich cantonal police. It is still unclear why this happened and is now being investigated by the police in close cooperation with the Zurich-Sihl public prosecutor’s office.

According to police, various other services were deployed, including the Limmattal Hospital rescue service, the SBB transport police and SBB Care, as well as the Swiss Transportation Security Investigation Board.

As a result of the accident, rail traffic on the Zurich HB – Olten route was restricted until around eleven o’clock, according to SBB information.
