  • The Young Boys remain without a win in the Super League after six games.
  • The Champions League participant showed a weak performance at home against Lausanne-Sport and managed a 1:1 draw.
  • The Bernese have to play with a man down in the final phase after a red card against Tanguy Zoukrou.
  • In the other Saturday games, Sion and Basel drew 1:1, while GC lost 1:2 at Yverdon.

During the week, the Young Boys experienced an unforgettable moment on the big European stage by qualifying for the league phase of the Champions League. But anyone who thought that this coup would also give the champions a boost in the Super League was mistaken. After a poor performance, the Bernese only managed a 1:1 draw in their home game against Lausanne-Sport and thus remain winless at the bottom of the table.

Lead despite weak first half

YB can even be satisfied with the point they won. Tuesday’s daring performance in Istanbul seemed to have left its mark, as the Bernese never got going on Saturday evening in Wankdorf. The fact that they went into the break with a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal from Filip Ugrinic was more than flattering. Midfielder Sandro Lauper also admitted this in a TV interview with SRF and said that his team had to show a different face in the second half.

Goal conceded and red card

But despite three substitutions during the break, there was no sign of this. Instead, the guests from Lausanne pushed for an equalizer. As in the first half, however, they were repeatedly thwarted by the strong goalkeeper Marvin Keller, who was the only Bern player to put in a “European performance”.

In the 70th minute, however, he was powerless when Karim Sow rose highest after a corner and headed the equalizer. YB could not react – quite the opposite. Just six minutes after the equalizer, Tanguy Zoukrou was shown the red card for an emergency stop. With fewer players, the home team defended the one point, but no one was really happy about it.

This is how it continues

The international break comes at the right time for the Bernese, who urgently need to pull themselves together after a weak start to the championship. The Super League does not resume until September 21 and 22. YB will then travel to FC Winterthur on Sunday. Lausanne-Sport will host Yverdon-Sport on the same day for the cantonal derby.
