The US company Apple has introduced a new generation of its iPad mini tablet. As with the last iteration from 2021, there is again an 8.3-inch touch display with an IPS base, with the resolution as usual being 2266 x 1488 pixels. In addition to 500 cd/m² brightness, a wide display P3 cover, an oil-repellent coating and support for the separately available Apple Pencil Pro (149 euros) are promised.
The new iPad mini gets an upgrade on the SoC side to the A17 Pro, which is known from the iPhone 15 Pro Max, for example. Specifically, a variant with 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, 16-core NPU and 4 efficiency cores is used. The internal storage capacity is either 128, 256 or 512 GB and houses iPadOS in the fresh version 18 ex works.
On the interface side, AirPlay, Bluetooth 5.3, USB-C and Wi-Fi 6E are available, among others. If you want, you will also be able to purchase the iPad mini with a telephony function, 5G support and eSIM. The 19.3 Wh battery promises up to ten hours (Wi-Fi) or up to nine hours (5G) of web surfing per charge. Dolby Vision and HDR10+ are supported as dynamic HDR formats. Dolby Atmos is also available.
As far as cameras are concerned, you can rely on a 12 MP wide-angle camera with f/1.8 aperture and autofocus on the back. Video recordings can be made in a maximum of 4K60. At the front there is a 12 MP ultra wide angle lens with f/2.4 aperture. Both sensors have automatic image stabilization. If you would like to make video calls, you can also use the internal stereo speakers and two integrated microphones.
The new Apple iPad mini should be available in Germany from October 23, 2024 and will appear in the color variants blue, polar star, space gray and violet. The Wi-Fi only version costs 599 euros (128 GB), 729 euros (256 GB) and 979 euros (512 GB), while the 5G version costs 769 euros (128 GB), 899 euros (256 GB). or 1,149 euros (512 GB) are due. A USB-C cable is included, but no charger.
