Bushido’s family lives a relatively public life. His daughter recently used her notoriety to highlight an illness.

Berlin – Bushido is considered one of the most famous rappers in Germany. But not only the musician, but also his wife Anna-Maria Ferchichi and their eleven-year-old daughter Laila Ferchichi are increasingly making a name for themselves on social media. The young Laila surprised everyone with a courageous statement about her health. As she herself said, she lives with the so-called “Marcus Gunn Syndrome”.

The trigger for her statement was a video published by the girl on Instagram in which she is eating chocolate with her little sister. It is noticeable that her eyes keep popping up when she chews. The video can no longer be viewed on her account, but is available on RTL, among others.

“A lot of people asked me yesterday ‘What’s wrong with one eye’, ‘Why does it move when you eat?’ said Laila in a video that was published the following day and also available to the station. “It’s called Marcus Gunn syndrome and only three percent (of people) in the world have it.” She explains that it’s a link between the eye and the jaw. When she then eats an ice cream, the eye twitches upwards again. Sjögren’s syndrome is also initially noticeable in the eyes and mouth.

Laila emphasizes that fortunately the syndrome does not cause her any pain. Doctors Vijayalakshmi A. Senthilkumar and Koushik Tripathy also confirm this in a specialist report that will be published in the US in 2023 National Library of Medicine was published. According to doctors, the rare syndrome is also known as “Marcus Gunn jaw-wink phenomenon.” It can be congenital but can also “occur over a wide range of ages,” the report says.

The eyelid not only twitches during chewing movements, but also hangs partially or completely down in a resting position, so that it differs from the other eyelid even when closed. As a rule, the syndrome only occurs on one side and on the left side of the face, but in exceptional cases it can also be present on both sides. Men and women are equally affected. It is considered rare and there are no concrete numbers of those affected.

According to doctors, the syndrome can theoretically be corrected medically and through surgery. However, opinions on surgical treatment of the syndrome are particularly controversial. Because in an emergency, the eyelid movement could worsen. At least Bushido’s daughter Laila seems to be getting by without treatment at the moment. In the video she gives the impression that the syndrome doesn’t bother her.
