Where does the famous orange jacket of Hall of Fame members come from? • USA Basketball

Next night, Vince Carter, Chauncey Billups and others will enter the Hall of Fame, the Basketball Hall of Fame. But last night, they already put on the famous orange jacket that is the pride of all the inductees…

However, this jacket, which is also accompanied by a ring, is a particularly recent creation, since the first ones were only offered in 2016, Yao Ming and Shaquille O’Neal being the first to wear it!

It was Jerry Colangelo, responsible for relaunching this poorly funded museum, who wanted a visually striking object. “We are sure to be well spotted, wherever we are” he then joked about this jacket, greatly inspired by the “gold” one distributed by the American Football Hall of Fame since 1978.

The interior now personalized

Moreover, it was Haggar, the historic manufacturer of the Pro Football Hall of Fame jacket, who was commissioned to create this jacket. The color? The “Naismith orange”, which obviously reminds us of a basketball.

“I went through the whole process of choosing the color. I thought about golf. I think we have specific colors for each sport. And orange is perfect for basketball”continued Jerry Colangelo.

In 2021, however, Haggar decided not to renew its contract with the Hall of Fame in Springfield to focus on the one in Canton, Ohio, letting Texas company Reveal Suits take over manufacturing. Now with a little bonus, the addition of personalized designs chosen in advance by the Hall of Famers.

In 2023, during his entry into the Basketball Pantheon, Tony Parker decided to decorate the inside of his jacket with the Spurs logo… as well as the number 9 that he wore with the French team.
