Cabaret artist Lizzy Aumeier is dead – “Upper Palatinate original with great skills”

According to media reports, the Neumarkt artist Lizzy Aumeister died on Thursday evening in Nuremberg at the age of 60 after a long illness and a short stay in the hospital.

Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) expressed his dismay at the death of cabaret artist Elisabeth “Lizzy” Aumeier.

“Bavaria mourns the loss of an Upper Palatinate original with great skills and a big heart,” he said on Friday, according to a press release from the State Chancellery. Lizzy Aumeier regularly thrilled audiences on stage and on television, whether with music, cabaret or comedy.

“That made her equally well-known and popular throughout Bavaria. I also knew her well personally and appreciated her very much. Even off stage, Lizzy Aumeier showed a heart for her fellow human beings,” said Söder. She was involved in several social clubs and was both a role model and an encourager. “Lizzy Aumeier was a great artist and a great person. Bavaria will honor her memory. Our thoughts are with her family.”

Aumeier had also been heavily involved in the church sector for decades. In 2007, she actively supported the church council elections in order to promote a high voter turnout. In 2015, she preached in the Passau city church of St. Matthäus on the topic of fear and also talked about her own anxiety and panic attacks, which bothered her for a long time. In 2023 she was awarded the Bavarian Order of Merit.
