According to the Russian translation, Peseschkian said the positions of both countries “on the international stage are similar.” Peseschkian described the situation in the Middle East as “difficult”. “The USA and Europe do not want the situation to calm down,” he said, according to the information.
In a video released by a Russian state television reporter and translated into Russian, Peseschkian accused Israel of bombing civilians and being supported by Western powers.
More intense relationships since 2022
Relations between Russia and Iran have intensified since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. Western governments have accused Tehran of supplying Moscow with drones and missiles. Iran rejects this.
The meeting between Putin and Peseschkian, who has been in office since the end of July, came at a time when Israel’s response to the latest Iranian attack on Israel is awaited. Last week, Iran directly attacked Israel with missiles for the second time in six months.
Iran is allied with the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon, which is fighting against Israel. Tehran also supports the terrorist organization Hamas, with which Israel has been at war since its major attack a year ago.
