Putin and Iranian President Pezeshkian meet in Turkmenistan

The meeting took place on the sidelines of a multinational event in the capital Ashkhabat.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Iranian counterpart Masoud Pezeshkian will meet in Turkmenistan on Friday. According to a Putin adviser, the meeting on the sidelines of a multinational event in the capital Ashkhabad will, among other things, be about the “strongly escalating situation in the Middle East”. Moscow and Tehran maintain close relations.

The meeting between Putin and Pezeshkian, who has been in office since the end of July, comes at a time when Israel’s response to the latest Iranian attack on Israel is awaited. Last week, Iran directly attacked Israel with missiles for the second time in six months.

Iran is allied with the Hezbollah militia in Lebanon, with whom Israel has recently engaged in fierce mutual attacks. Tehran also supports the Palestinian organization Hamas, with which Israel has been at war since its major attack on Israeli territory a year ago. (APA)
