Baden-Württemberg: Official: Jürgen Klopp will be the new head of football at Red Bull

Jürgen Klopp returns to the football stage with a bang. The Stuttgart native will take on the job of Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull.

Jürgen Klopp is returning to the football business and will be the new Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull. The beverage company confirmed the 57-year-old’s commitment. “Bild” and the TV broadcaster Sky previously reported that the Stuttgart native had signed a long-term contract and should start his new job on January 1, 2025.

Jürgen Klopp’s last coach at Liverpool

“I want to develop, improve and support the incredible football talent we have,” said Red Bull in a short message on Instagram and on the X platform. Klopp, who grew up in Glatten in the Black Forest, was following suit in the summer gave up his coaching position at Liverpool FC for nine years.

He had already announced before his break that he would not take on a new coaching position for a year. He doesn’t do that now, but moves to the manager level – his work should be of a strategic nature and not in active day-to-day business. According to “Sky”, Klopp should have an exit clause in the event that he should one day be considered as national coach and successor to Julian Nagelsmann at the German Football Association.

Klopp is supposed to take care of RB Leipzig, among other things

The former Mainz and Dortmund Bundesliga coach will reportedly be responsible for the international network of all Red Bull football clubs at the Austrian group. These include RB Leipzig, Salzburg, the New York Red Bulls, Bragantino (Brazil) and Omiya Ardija (Japan). Red Bull has also acquired shares in the English club Leeds United.

Klopp should help to further develop RB’s playing philosophy and bring in his expertise and network in scouting and in the selection of coaches and talent.

Mintzlaff is said to have arranged the commitment

Red Bull Group managing director Oliver Mintzlaff is primarily responsible for the surprising Klopp deal. The former CEO of RB Leipzig is said to have pushed for the signing of the successful coach for months and has now made it perfect.

Mintzlaff, boss in Leipzig from 2014 to 2022, has been responsible for all sports projects in the Red Bull cosmos since 2022. As “CEO Corporate Projects and Investments” he is a member of the three-person management team at Red Bull GmbH and one of the most powerful movers and shakers in global sport.

Order of Merit of the State of Baden-Württemberg for Jürgen Klopp

Klopp had only received the Order of Merit of the state of Baden-Württemberg on Tuesday for his social commitment outside of sport and his work against racism. It was the second honor within just a week, after he had already received the Federal Order of Merit from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
