VfB Stuttgart | Votes VfB Stuttgart-TSG Hoffenheim

VfB head coach Sebastian Hoeneß has mixed feelings about the draw against TSG Hoffenheim, Ermedin Demirovic comments on the penalty situation.

VfB head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “The initial phase wasn’t good, we weren’t happy with that. We then changed the structure a little tactically and also changed the personnel as the game progressed. That helped to get the game under control. It felt like we conceded a goal in our best phase of the first half. That was poison and it was clear afterwards that it would be a challenging game. Hoffenheim pressed high in the second half. At first we didn’t have the necessary speed of action. After ten or 15 minutes in the second half we took control of the game. We had a lot of crosses that weren’t of good quality. We could have forced ourselves into more situations. Hoffenheim fought tooth and nail until the end. We are happy that we scored the goal so late. The team believed in it until the end. So we leave the game with mixed feelings. We are happy that we equalized, but we would have wanted to go into the international break with a win.”

Pellegrino Matarazzo, head coach TSG Hoffenheim: “It’s a shame that we only took one point. It was a penalty situation that can be seen either way. The boys showed a brutal spirit. Our match plan worked. It was clear to us that there would also be phases in which we would have to suffer. The higher pressing initially worked well. In the end, a lot of crosses flew into our penalty area. Then such a penalty occurs. However, I don’t blame the team. I’m actually proud of the team spirit.”

Ermedin Demirovic: “Hoffenheim made life difficult for us. They tried everything to take us out of the game. Nevertheless, we did well. The fans gave us an extra boost and we managed to stay unbeaten at home again. The penalty situation wasn’t easy: I had too much time to think and switched sides again, which I don’t normally do. I have to admit that I was nervous about the follow-up shot because I had to take it no matter what. We’ll take this one point with us, analyze the game and attack again after the international break.”
