Goalless duel between the table neighbors | FC Aarau

At the end of an intense evening, both teams, which now remain neighbors in the table with 12 points, will have been equally annoyed about the missed opportunities. Despite playing advantages over the entire match, the Aarau team only rarely managed to work their way into a serious finishing position. Meanwhile, the guests from Vaduz missed the best chance of the evening: in the 25th minute, Danilo Del Toro went down slightly in a duel with David Acquah, which prompted the referee to give a penalty whistle, but Vaduz goalgetter Fabrizio Cavegn saw his goal go flat The penalty kick taken in the left corner bounces off the inside post into the field of play.

For the Liechtensteiners, ex-FCA player Mats Hammerich became the sole entertainer – his attempts missed the target twice (5th/34th), and goalie Marvin Hübel was attentive on the spot on the third attempt (52nd). It was the only situation that required Aarau support to intervene. Otherwise, the hosts’ defense didn’t allow anything to happen with a consistent and vigilant performance. On the other hand, there was a lack of the necessary killer instinct in the opponent’s penalty area: Milot Avdyli failed twice in his 100th game (9th/20th), and shortly before half-time Nikola Gjorgjev hesitated for too long after Serge Müller’s cross, so Vaduz captain Nicolas Hasler was able to block.

Aarau’s dominance became even more obvious after the break, but Gjorgjev (49th/63rd) and Yannick Toure (53rd) missed equally. And when the shots finally found their way onto goal, they were either blocked by a teammate (63′, Fazliu) or were too imprecise (69′, Gjorgjev). Shortly before the end, Vaduz “lost” keeper Leon Schaffran after a violent collision with Serge Müller, but his replacement Benjamin Büchel could no longer be defeated by Valon Fazliu (87th) and Emmanuel Ernest (94th) in the final domestic offensive, so that Head coach Brunello Iacopetta’s selection failed to score a goal for the first time in this championship.
