As of: October 2nd, 2024 8:13 p.m

The dikes in the Pinneberg district are closed. A number of animals have died from bluetongue across the country.

Part of a dike in the Pinneberg district has been closed due to bluetongue disease. The closed dike route is between Krückau and Pinnau. Anyone traveling there by bike or on foot has to be prepared for detours. According to the district, the aim is to relieve the weakened animals. The State Office for Coastal Protection, National Parks and Marine Protection in Schleswig-Holstein is responsible for the closures. Bluetongue is transmitted by mosquitoes and affects sheep, cattle and goats. The first case in Schleswig-Holstein became known at the beginning of August, and since then the disease has continued to spread – a vaccination is intended to counteract this.
