Young Boys: Despite YB misery, Barça surprises

What a crowd! Over 50 media professionals watched FC Barcelona’s training before the Champions League game against Young Boys. Almost all of them were press representatives from Spain. 20 minutes talks to several people. They see the Young Boys as opponents that Barça absolutely have to beat. Otherwise it would be “catastrófico”, i.e. “catastrophic”.

Your opinion: understandable. After all, the reigning champion is in deep misery. After eight league games, the Bernese are in eleventh place. Coach Patrick Frame’s record is bad. After 13 games across all competitions, he has an average of just 1.38 points. This is “catastrófico”. And there’s more: Six points from eight games also means the Young Boys’ weakest start to the season in the Super League history.

Before the cracker against FC Barcelona (9 p.m., live with us), Framework is thinking positively. “We want to put in a good performance and, if possible, take something away,” he says. He is also asked about the bad start to the season with the Bernese team. This is where the Basel character becomes clear.

«As a YB coach you have to win every game. The situation in the league is unsatisfactory,” said Framework. The situation is currently not easy. “But we can’t complain and we’ll face the pressure situation!” In order for the sensation to work, Frame thought about something. He’s thinking about the CL qualifying game against Galatasaray: “Against Gala, however, we showed that we can narrow down spaces very well and create opportunities.”

He also comes up with a surprise. So David von Ballmoos, the most successful YB player in history, starts in the cracker against Barcelona goalie talent Marvin Keller (22). Framework confirmed this at the press conference.

Barça coach Hansi Flick also wants victory. But the German is surprised and praises the Bernese despite the miserable start. He says that he analyzed the team like any team. “The start of the season hasn’t worked out quite well so far, but you could see YB’s qualities against Aston Villa,” said Flick.

YB is young and acts courageously. When asked about it for 20 minutes, he added: “I see the team as a whole and don’t single out individual players. YB has a strong collective.”

Barcelona talent Marc Casadó (21) is also full of praise for the Bernese team. Despite Bern’s recently very weak defense, he is of the opinion: “YB is very compact and has a lot of fast players.” As a reminder: The Bernese conceded 16 goals in eight games in the league alone. Only Lausanne has conceded more goals. Casadó also warns: “We have to make sure we don’t allow too many counterattacks.”
