Due to a fire in the region of the popular vacation resort of Platanias in western Crete, numerous tourists had to be evacuated from hotel facilities on Wednesday. According to the fire department, fire-fighting helicopters and powerful units are being deployed to bring the flames under control.

The evacuation of the hotels had been ordered as a precautionary measure, the broadcaster continued, showing videos and photos of tourists leaving the hotels to be taken to safety.
