US election debate latest: Trump reveals feelings before debate; Melania says ‘more to the story’ of Trump’s shooting | US News

Kamala Harris’s campaign is bringing former Trump officials to Philadelphia where they are set to speak out against the ex-president ahead of tonight’s debate.

Anthony Scaramucci, former White House communications adviser, and Olivia Troye, former homeland security adviser to Mike Pence, will join the campaign, an official said.

Before Ms Harris and Ms Trump face off, the two former aides will talk about why they’re supporting the vice president and warn about the dangers of a second Trump presidency.

Harris-Walz communications director Michael Tyler said: “As Americans prepare to tune in for tonight’s debate, these former Trump staffers are warning that a second Donald Trump presidency would be far more dangerous and extreme than the first.

“The upcoming election and tonight’s debate will be a stark choice between vice president Harris, an experienced and strong leader, and Donald Trump, a man who lacks the trust of the people that know him best.”

Ms Troye said she witnessed the “destruction and chaos” of Mr Trump’s leadership first hand, while Mr Scaramucci, an outspoken critic of his former boss, said the ex-president is surrounded by a new group of people who are “to the hard right” and make him “more dangerous”.

It comes as the Harris campaign launches a new attack ad featuring several of Mr Trump’s former allies, including his vice president Mr Pence and former national security adviser John Bolton, warning against him returning to the White House.
