On August 12, 2024, Richard Lugner closed his eyes forever. The Austrian entrepreneur was 91 years old and leaves behind four children, his wife Simone Lugner, whom he married in June, several ex-wives – and big shoes that no one can really fill. Two days after “Mörtel’s” death, his family informed about Lugner’s last journey on Instagram, among other places. “The memorial service and public viewing will take place on Saturday, 31. August 2024 at 9:00 a.m. in Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral,” fans can read in the obituary. Lugner’s coffin will be by 8 o’clock carried into the cathedral church of St. Stephen, family and close relatives will accompany him. Cathedral priest Toni Faber will receive the coffin and lay it out.

The end of the memorial service will be around 10 o’clock expected, after which the mourners will set off with the coffin “in a kind of car convoy along the Ringstrasse towards the Grinzinger Cemetery.” The route will include the most important points in Richard Lugner’s life, including stops at the Vienna State Opera and Lugner City. The public funeral service will then end there.

The subsequent burial will take place in the Kaasgraben church, closed to the public, with the closest family and friends. Richard Lugner will find his final resting place in a crypt at the Grinzinger Cemetery in Vienna-Döbling. From there, “Mörtel” will have a view of his former villa. This detail was very important to the entrepreneur, he emphasized during his lifetime in an interview with “Heute”. Around 200 guests will attend the funeral, all of whom were personally selected by Lugner himself. His family is now asking both the public and media representatives to “respect their privacy”.
Two of Lugner’s ex-partners have not received invitations
The guest list for the funeral includes not only Austrian politicians but also a large number of Lugner’s ex-partners. Regional media unanimously report that Nina “Bambi” Bruckner, Karin “Zebra” Karre, “Goldfisch” Andrea and Lydia “Wildsau” Kelovitz, for example, will be able to say goodbye to Lugner.
Only two of “Mörtel’s” former partners will be missing: Cathy “Spatzi” Lugner and “Babyelefant” Daniela Kennedy are said to have received no invitations to the businessman’s private funeral. Cathy stressed the day after “Mörtel’s” death that she felt “unwelcome” at his funeral.
