Surgery necessary! Marco Schwarz must take a break of up to eight weeks

After Marco Schwarz suffered a cruciate ligament tear with a torn meniscus and cartilage damage in Bormio at the end of last year, the all-rounder had to cope with another setback in his fight to return to the World Cup. After experiencing back pain, Schwarz was diagnosed with a bulging disc in his lumbar spine, and Dr. Michael Gabl infiltrated the ski ace. It was hoped that things would improve with a little rest.

Since there was no improvement, the 29-year-old decided to undergo surgery. Schwarz was successfully operated on on his intervertebral disc by Gabl at the Kettenbrücke private clinic in Innsbruck on Friday. “After conservative treatment did not bring the desired improvement, surgery was unavoidable. The operation went very well and was uncomplicated and we assume that the problem will heal without any consequences,” says the doctor.

Eight weeks break

This means that the ÖSV star will not be able to start training again for about eight weeks, but he is taking on the challenge: “Unfortunately, the situation worsened so much at the beginning of the week that there was no way around the operation. Of course, it is hard to be set back a few weeks, but it was definitely the right decision. Now it’s all about getting fully fit again so that he can ski freely again.”
