On a bus ride to a city festival in Siegen, a woman apparently randomly attacked other passengers with a knife. Three people are in critical condition after the attack. The police do not currently suspect a terrorist motive.

In Siegen, North Rhine-Westphalia, a woman injured five people in a bus with a knife. This was announced by the police in Siegen-Wittgenstein. According to the police, three people are in critical condition after the attack. One person was seriously injured and another was slightly injured.

As the Dortmund police reported on X, the crime occurred at around 7:40 p.m. on a bus in Siegen-Eiserfeld. According to the statement, the bus with around 40 other passengers was on its way to the city festival in Siegen when the woman stabbed the passengers. The alerted officers were able to arrest the 32-year-old attacker on the spot as a suspect.

There are currently no indications of a terrorist background. There is also “no further danger” for the public. Therefore, the city festival in Siegen will continue after consultation with the organizer. According to the “Siegener Zeitung”, there is concrete evidence that the attacker was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

The operation is ongoing. The area around the crime scene is currently cordoned off, it was said. The police are securing evidence and questioning witnesses. The police also called on citizens not to spread false reports on online networks or other channels, and in particular not to make any reference to a terrorist attack. Emergency chaplains are also on site.
