Landslide in Valais: Air Zermatt flies workers out of the area

-

Because of impassable roads, Air Zermatt is flying workers to Stalden on behalf of companies, as the “Walliser Bote” writes.

However, tourists cannot yet be flown because the municipalities and the canton would have to declare an extraordinary situation. Without this basis, Air Zermatt cannot apply for a permit from the Federal Office of Economic Affairs, a media spokesperson told the “Walliser Bote”.

The management team expects the rain to continue until 6 p.m. on Thursday evening, but the intensity will gradually decrease. Schools will be closed throughout Thursday, but the management team is confident that classes will be able to resume on Friday.

The level of the Saaservispa is reportedly falling, so the situation will gradually calm down. However, the road between Saas-Grund and Saas-Almagell will remain closed until further notice, the municipality announced. Further information will be provided on Friday morning.
