The legendary rocker and frontman of the group “Riblja chorba” Bora Đorđević died in a hospital in Ljubljana at the age of 72.
Bora Đorđević died after a serious illness, confirmed from “Riblje chorba”.
“Dear friends, it is with sadness and grief that we inform you that our friend and brother, Borisav Bora Đorđević, has left us. Rest in peace, our dear Boki,” the band’s announcement reads.
After severe pneumonia, Đorđević was being treated at the Clinical Hospital Center in Ljubljana.
Known by the nickname Bora Chorba, he was born in Čačak on November 1, 1952. He was the main vocalist and songwriter of “Fish Soup” since its foundation in 1978.
Before that, he was a member of the groups “Suncokreti” and “Rani mraz”.
Đorđević was one of the most famous musicians of the Serbian and Yugoslav rock scene, and after the release of the album “Koza nostra” in 1990, he was accused of “insulting the working class of Yugoslavia”, but the charges were dismissed.
He was a member of the City Committee of the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) in Belgrade, and after the political changes in Serbia, for a time he held the position of advisor to the Minister of Culture. After a year, he resigned.
Đorđević is the winner of the Ivo Andrić Academy award for the poetry book “Desert Island”, he was an honorary citizen of Knin. In 2002, his native Čačak awarded him the title of honorary citizen.
