– The “eternal derby” is coming soon. Let everyone cheer for their own, and thank you for beautifying the lyrics of our most beautiful anthem! – were the words of Partizan on social networks.

Namely, the great “delija” Boro Čorba sang the famous anthem “While the Partizan Battle is Fighting”, which, as he later discovered, was the biggest stain in his career.

– It’s true, I sang on the first audio recording of that song, but only the part “hey, hey, hey…”. And if there is any justification, I had no idea that it would be Partizan’s anthem – said Bora in an interview for “Informer”.

Bora explained that back in 1975, Kornelije Kovač hired the group “Zajedno” to sing a song in the studio that, as he says, he had no idea was the anthem of Partizan.

– When Cornelius calls, it is not refused. That’s how it was then. We all came – Saša Aleks, Asim Sarvan, Ljuba Ninković, Snežana Jandrlić, Gorica Popović… I only found out what we were doing in the studio, and then it was too late, there was no going back. I’ve been a star since childhood and it was really hard for me. Here, I admit that it is definitely the biggest stain in my career – admitted Bora.

Among the people who sang backing vocals for the Partizan national anthem behind singer Saša Aleks are the actress Gorica Popović and the singer Riblja chorba, the great star Bora Đorđević, by the way, the author of many songs sung by “delije”.

Composer Kornelija Kovač talks about the creation of that song.

– Slobodan Novaković gave me the text in the mid-seventies. He asked me if I knew how to sing the national anthem, I said I can, as a professional I will sing the national anthem if necessary. I finished everything in two days. After that we recorded the song – said Kornelije Kovač.

Who was Bora Đorđević?

BORISAV Bora Đorđević (1952) was a rock poet, singer and the main author of the rock group Riblja chorba, with whom he recorded some of the most important songs of the Serbian and Yugoslav music scene, such as “Look at your home, angel” and “Doll from the front page”.

Đorđević started playing music as a student in his native Čačak, and after continuing his education in Belgrade, he founded his first acoustic band Zajedno in 1972, with which he recorded several songs.

In the mid-seventies, Đorđević also published songs with the bands Hajduk Stanko i jataci, Zdravo i SOS, from which Riblja chorba was later created, developing as an author of lyrics and music.

He wrote, among other things, the lyrics for the song “Produži dalje” by Zdravko Čolić, to the music of Kornelij Kovač (1942-2022), the later producer of Fish Soup.

With the acoustic band Suncokret, he released several singles and one album “Moje bube” (1977), and when they didn’t want to record his song “Doll from the cover”, he briefly moved to Rani mraz, which included Đorđe Balašević (1953- 2021).

Đorđević founded the rock group Riblja chorba on August 15, 1978 with SOS members bassist Miša Aleksić (1953-2020), guitarist Rajko Kojić (1956-1997) and drummer Miroslav Vick Milatović, and a little later another guitarist joined them. Momčilo Bajagić Bajaga.

At the end of 1978, Riblja chorba released the famous single with the song “Doll from the cover”, which became one of their most popular songs and a trademark of the band and Đorđević.

Led by Đorđević, Riblja čorba became one of the most popular bands in Yugoslavia already with the debut album “Bone in the Throat” (1979), and strengthened its status with “Pokvareno mašto i prvjim strastemi” (1981) and “Mrtvo na grulu” (1981).

The musical maturity and extraordinary popularity of Riblja chorba, as well as the singing abilities, charisma and wit of Đorđević are best documented by the live album “In the name of the people” (1982).
Great Yugoslav hits became Čorba’s songs such as “Stay garbage until the end”, “Don’t, luck, don’t today”, “I love, I love, I love women”, “I don’t want to turn out to be an animal”, “Good morning” and many others.

Đorđević came under fire from the public for the lines “drink your sedatives” in the song “Mirno sleep”, as well as “fools die for ideals” and “idiots rise up and die” in “Na zapadu nicht novo”.

Because of the provocative lyrics, the album “Včeras vas umjajaju muzicari koji piju” (1984) was labeled a scumbag, while the politically intoned song “Strength of the Opposition” had to be dropped from the next album “Istine” (1985).

On that album was one of Đorđević’s most beautiful and moving songs, “Look at your home, angel”, for which he also wrote the music, and it became a trademark of Čorba and was necessarily performed at the band’s concerts in the following decades.

Đorđević continued with fierce political messages in songs such as “I will sing” and “There is no God, there is no justice” from “The Eighth Nervous Breakdown” (1986) and “Mafia Member” from “Bite for the Soul” (1987).

At the same time, he was able to be humorous in hits such as “Amsterdam”, “Don’t walk in my street”, “David Bowie was playing” and “Aviona, I will break your wings”, but also to write touching love or life-shaking songs such as ” I’m damned”, “Wake me up tomorrow”, “When night falls”, “Yes it’s me” and “Outside”.

Đorđević continued to deal with current political issues even in the dawn of the end of Yugoslavia, in songs such as “Tito je vas”, “Al Capone” and “Žikica Jovanović Španac”, and then in the time of wars and sanctions with the album “Labudova pesma” (1992 ), where the song “The war is over” is also included.

At the beginning of the war in the nineties, Đorđević wrote the lyrics for the song “E moj druže Zagrebki” by the Knin band Minđušari, and he sang with the folk singer Baj Mali Knindžo in “Quit, khuti, ujko”.

For the project “On the other side of the rainbow” (1992), he wrote the lyrics and music for “I will not forgive my children”, which was also included on his independent album “Njihovi dani” (1996), on which he sang critically about the married couple Milošević in to the song “Baba Jula”.

In the following decades, Đorđević continued to lead Fish Soup, which regularly released albums, the last of which was “Da tebe nije” (2019), while an album with the working name “Danse Macabre” was recorded but not published.

An extremely prolific creator, Đorđević wrote lyrics for several hundred songs, some of which were written for artists such as Miki Jevremović (1941-2017), Maja Odžaklijevska, Bisera Veletanlić, Oliver Mandić, Generacija 5, Dejan Cukić, Legende and many others.

He was a guest of Bijela Dugmeta in the song “Peduculis Pubis”, and he also collaborated in concerts with Arsen Dedić (1938-2015) and Zoran Predin.

Đorđević was a member of the Main Board of the Democratic Party of Serbia, and for a short time an adviser to the Minister of Culture of Serbia, Dragan Kojadinović.

In 2021, the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić awarded Đorđević with the Order of the Star of Karađorđe, first class, for his artistic merits, and he recently received the Order of Honor with Golden Rays from the President of the Republic of Srpska, Milorad Dodik.

Đorđević published several books of poems, such as “Ravnodušan prema plaču” (1985) and “Hey, Slavs” (1987), of which “What the Poet Wanted to Say” (2011) also had an autobiographical prose basis.

In the short biography at the end of the book, Đorđević, writing about himself, pointed out that in Riblja čorba “they have won all the accolades that can be won”, and that he is personally the winner of “numerous prizes awarded for poetry”.

Stating that Fish Stew was included in the history textbook for the eighth grade of elementary schools, and the music textbook for the first grade of secondary schools, Đorđević also pointed out that two of his children’s songs were included in the reading material for the lower grades of elementary schools.
