In three medal decisions, athletes from Switzerland are also among the favorites. Catherine Debrunner (pictured), gold medalist over 800 and 5000 m in the T53 category, dominated her heat over 1500 m and could achieve the triple. Manuela Schär, winner over 800 m in the T54 category, is also among the medal candidates. Patricia Eachus is also in the final. The race for wheelchair athletes in the T53 and T54 categories takes place at 12.25 p.m.

In the evening, Marcel Hug will also be competing for medals over the same distance. After winning silver in the 5000 m, the 38-year-old now wants to win gold. However, he did not put in a confident performance in his preliminary heat. (nih)

Many medals will be handed out again on the 6th day of competition. There are many decisions to be made in athletics and swimming, among other things, but Paralympic victories will also be fought for in shooting, horse riding, fencing, archery and table tennis. You can find the complete overview here.

After the Swiss women’s trio, Marcel Hug also made it into the finals over 1500 m on Monday evening. In the preliminary round, the wheelchair athlete only managed to make it into the finals in fifth place thanks to a strong final sprint. After his disappointing silver medal over 5000 m, Hug wants to win on Tuesday evening. To do this, however, the 38-year-old must improve, as he himself stated in an interview with SRF. (nih)

First, Schär qualified the day after her triumph over 800 m as third in her heat in the T54 category, then Eachus followed suit by finishing fourth in her heat. In the T53 category, Debrunner, the winner over 800 and 5000 m, is also in the final. The 29-year-old was the fastest in her heat. (nih)

Para-badminton player Ilaria Renggli won the bronze medal in the individual tournament at the Paralympics with a 21:13, 21:14 victory over Japanese Yuma Yamazaki. Ilaria Renggli (24) did not have to worry too much about her first medal at the Paralympics. She immediately pulled away from her opponent in both sets: 6:1 in the first set, 8:3 in the second. After 34 minutes, Renggli converted the first match point.

The Aargau native exceeded her own expectations in Paris. At the beginning of the year she spoke of her goals: Renggli wanted to at least compete in the singles in Paris and win a medal in the doubles. Eight months later she lost the bronze medal in the doubles with Cynthia Mathez against two Thais by a very narrow margin (20:22, 25:27), but 16 hours later she won the singles medal. In the singles she only lost twice in Paris in the preliminary round and in the semi-finals against the Chinese Li Hongyan.

This was not the first time Renggli had won medals: at the Para World Championships two years ago in Tokyo, she won bronze in singles and doubles. At the European Championships a year ago in Rotterdam, she even won gold (doubles) and silver (singles). (abu/sda)
