France is in the middle of an air mass conflict this week. Warm air continues to rise across the entire eastern flank, while a cold drop brings cooler and more humid weather from the west. This situation is conducive to the development of sometimes strong and especially very rainy storms, which will affect a large part of the regions until this weekend.

Tuesday, sometimes strong thunderstorms in the northeast

After a stormy night from Monday to Tuesday in the southwest with sometimes significant accumulations of rain, new storms are reactivating this Tuesday between the Loire, Franche-Comté and then Lorraine, with marked activity there too. This situation is also the subject of a special press release from our services. The strongest storm axis is expected between the Loire and the Meuse with a risk of hail and gusts exceeding 80 km/h.

Wednesday, reactivation of storms near the Mediterranean

This time, the south-east will also be affected by very rainy and sometimes marked storms. They will come up from the Mediterranean to affect the PACA region and the Alps, then Alsace. Even if these storms could be significant, we will not speak of a Mediterranean or Cévennes episode, because the associated precipitation will not exceed the thresholds. The heaviest rains are also expected east of the Rhône.

Thursday, calming of the stormy situation except on the coast of Provence

Reliability is already becoming more limited for this Thursday with storms that should nevertheless calm down over 3/4 of the country. In the south-east, and particularly in Provence, storms could continue to rise from the Mediterranean, with still high intensities of rain under the cells.

However, other models are suggesting the possibility of new storms in the northern half during the evening, which should also be monitored.

Friday, towards an increase in instability?

With a weekend that promises to be very bad and stormy, Friday could prove to be disrupted, particularly in the northern half with the cold drop plunging into the centre of the country.

The reliability is obviously to be confirmed, but a risk is already present to date. We therefore invite you to come back regularly to consult our forecast updates.
