Football: Towards a return of Barça to Camp Nou at the end of the year

FC Barcelona hopes to be able to play again in its legendary Camp Nou stadium – currently undergoing modernization and expansion work – “by the end of the civil year”, declared the club’s spokesperson, Elena Fort. The institutional vice-president of Barça presented the roadmap of the Catalan giant to the press on Monday, ensuring that the club was working “actively” to return to the Camp Nou “by the end of the year”, with a fixed gauge initially at 62,000 places instead of the 105,000 ultimately planned.

The end of the work is scheduled for the summer of 2026, when the “Espai Barça” – the name given to the project – will be fully finished and the roof of the stadium installed.

Barcelona supporters will be able, in the coming days, to register to buy a six-month subscription for the second part of the season, with Blaugrana leaders considering that there is “no reason” for the current leader of the Spanish championship does not turn back the lawn of its legendary venue at the start of 2025.

Launched in June 2023, work to modernize Camp Nou – which will now be called “Spotify Camp Nou” after the sponsorship deal signed with the music streaming giant – has been slowed down due to permitting reasons, and complaints from several workers for their working conditions.

Barça therefore asked to extend its contract with the municipality for the use of the Montjuïc Olympic stadium “until March 31, 2025”, “as a precaution”. The Catalan club has been playing its matches in this venue with some 50,000 seats for over a year now.
