Fire broke out in a barn on Moosegg. This report was received by the Bern cantonal police shortly before 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The barn was already fully ablaze when the emergency services arrived on site in Einen (municipality of Spiez).

Fire under control

“Members of the Spiez fire brigade were able to bring the fire under control and finally extinguish it,” the Bern cantonal police (Kapo) announced in a press release: “After the extinguishing work, a fire watch was set up. No one was injured.”

“No animals were harmed either,” added a police officer at the scene of the fire. Nevertheless, an ambulance team was on site as a precaution. Even at 7:30 p.m. the fire had not been completely extinguished. But the fire was under control. Clean-up and extinguishing work continued.

Acrid burning smell

The column of smoke was visible from far away in the Lake Thun region on Friday afternoon. The wind blew clouds of smoke towards the lake. The acrid smell of fire hung in the air within a radius of several kilometers. The police have begun investigations into the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
