Will the so-called “dirty tricks” affair surrounding Paris Saint-Germain cause political unrest? The question arises in light of the latest development in this judicial case involving espionage around the capital club and its Qatari president, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.

According to information from the Monde, which confirm those of Agence France-Presse (AFP), the former Macronist deputy of Paris (2017-2022) and former vice-president of the National Assembly Hugues Renson was indicted, at the end of his first appearance questioning, on Thursday September 5, for influence peddling by a person invested with a public elective mandate as part of the judicial investigation opened by the Paris prosecutor’s office, in September 2022.

Contacted by The WorldMr. Renson’s attorney, Me Mario Stasi did not wish to comment on this information. The Paris prosecutor’s office, also contacted, had not yet responded on Thursday evening.

Questioned in the spring at the premises of the National Police General Inspectorate (IGPN), the 46-year-old former parliamentarian, currently secretary general of EDF Hydro, is suspected in particular of having received benefits and gifts from PSG and of having abused his influence in order to allow the club to obtain favorable decisions from an authority or public administration.

Invitations to the Parc des Princes

Investigators were interested in the exchanges between the former parliamentarian, a big supporter of the club, and the former communications director (2017-2022) of PSG, Jean-Martial Ribes, indicted in December 2023 for “corruption” and “influence peddling” in this case.

Since 2012, the elected official has made several offers of service to Mr. Ribes. “If you are looking for a spokesperson, I will give up my mandate tomorrow to come and work with you.”he wrote to him, while he was vice-president of the Assembly, on August 24, 2020.

For several years, the elected official has benefited from numerous invitations to the Parc des Princes to attend PSG matches. He has also been invited to diplomatic events related to Qatar, without being able to attend due to scheduling issues. His children had the privilege, in 2017, of being “escort kids”, accompanying the players on the stadium pitch.

Over time, the former MP, former advisor to Jacques Chirac and member of the France-Qatar friendship group in the National Assembly, appears as one of the relays activated by Mr. Ribes for political subjects.
