Women excluded from national championships

The Girondins de Bordeaux continue to sink: the women’s team excluded from the national championships

Where will Bordeaux’s decline stop? While the men’s first team was able to start its season in National 2, the fourth tier of French football, the women’s section will not even have that chance.

According to Sud Ouest, the DNCG of the French Football Federation (FFF) has in fact decided to exclude the Girondins women’s team from the national divisions after an inconclusive hearing, carried out this Thursday morning.

Ten days before the start of the championships

The Girondins and the English investment fund Sphera Partners were to present their transfer project, in order to give the keys to the women’s sections to a new company, Newco, financed by Sphera. Except that this transfer was not finalized in time, Newco not being registered to date with the Commercial and Local Authorities Court. Guarantees on the financing of the operating budget for the first team and the women’s section, estimated at 1.2 million euros, were also not provided.

As a result, the women’s first team will not be able to start its championship on September 15 against Nice, just like the U19 national section against Nantes. The Sphera investment fund now has the option of appealing this decision or not.
