Dimitri Pavadé fails at the foot of the podium, fourth coronation for the legend Markus Rehm

Three years after his silver in Tokyo, the Reunion Islander finished fourth in the T64 long jump final on Wednesday at the Stade de France. Unsurprisingly, Germany’s Markus Rehm dominated the event.

At the Stade de France

Gold was in any case inaccessible, the preserve of German Markus Rehm since the London Games in 2012. Wednesday night’s battle was mainly about the other two places on the podium, and in that game, Dimitri Pavadé lacked a little energy. The Reunion native failed just off the podium at the Stade de France, in the T64 long jump final (lower leg deficiency) of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

The Frenchman was obviously aiming for better, three years after winning silver in Tokyo. But he can still congratulate himself on this result which comes a little over a year after a terrible injury, a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligaments in his right knee. Above all, he achieved a better jump than in the Japanese capital (7.43 against 7.39), and his second best in his career.

Americans Closer to Rehm

Oddly enough, it was the first of his six jumps of the evening that served as his best score. In the warm air of Saint-Denis, the next five jumps (three of which were bitten) failed to beat the three men in front.

Although he finished far from his personal best (8.72) and the absolute record for the discipline, able-bodied included (8.95 in 1991 by Mike Powell), the legend Markus Rehm still achieved a jump of 8.13 m. This is a little less far than in Tokyo (8.18) and Rio (8.21). Behind the German monster, the American Derek Loccident, capable of surpassing the symbolic 8 m mark and reigning vice-world champion, jumped 7.79 m. His compatriot Jarryd Wallace completed the podium with a jump of 7.49 m… That is six centimetres further than Dimitri Pavadé.
