Victor Osimhen, dismissed by Naples and who was not able to find him a way out, has signed with Galatasaray on loan for a season.
Napoli’s Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, sidelined by his Italian club, has signed with Turkish side Galatasaray on a one-season loan with no option to buy, the Istanbul club announced on Wednesday. He will wear the number 45. Osimhen, top scorer in the 2022-23 Italian championship, “will receive a net salary of 6 million euros”said Galatasaray, the two-time reigning Turkish champion, in a statement.
Greeted by a crowd of supporters at Istanbul’s Ataturk airport on the night of Monday to Tuesday, the striker was not included in the list of players who could participate in the Italian championship, after the failure of negotiations for his transfer to Chelsea or Saudi Arabia.
The 25-year-old Nigerian had been highly coveted in the summer of 2023 after being, with 26 goals in Serie A, one of the architects of Napoli’s third title in history. But his 2023-24 season, like that of his club, which ended with a 10th place in the standings, was disappointing with 15 goals in the league.
The staggering release clause of 130 million euros included by Naples in his contract and the striker’s salary expectations had also put off several clubs from acquiring his services during the summer transfer window.
