French double in the C4 time trial with Le Cunff in gold and Le Rousseau in silver

By winning gold and silver respectively in the C4 time trial on Wednesday in Clichy-sous-Bois, Kevin Le Cunff and Gatien Le Rousseau continued France’s excellent day in para-cycling on the road.

Double blue! Frenchman Kévin Le Cunff won the gold medal in the C4 category time trial, just ahead of his young compatriot Gatien Le Rousseau on Wednesday in Clichy-sous-Bois.

Cursed on the track, with four fourth places in two participations in the Paralympic Games, Le Cunff and his 36 years took a resounding revenge on the demanding roads of Seine-Saint-Denis.

Revenge of the individual pursuit

Four days after letting Le Rousseau, 21, steal the bronze medal in the individual pursuit, Le Cunff was imperious to win a new Paralympic gold medal, three years after the one in the road race in Tokyo.

The two runners are competing in category C4, intended for para-athletes with a tibial amputation, severe leg injury, or mild injury to all 4 limbs and the trunk.

Le Cunff has two club feet and an atrophied calf, Le Rousseau has paralysis of the levators of both feet.

“I don’t want to go back to a velodrome anymore, I’m an outdoor guy, I’d be better off outside”the former member of the professional team Saint-Michel-Auber 93 said on Sunday, after a new disappointment in the velodrome of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines.

And he was much better, winning with more than 30 seconds ahead of his young teammate.

He will attempt the double in the road race on Friday.

With this new victory, Le Cunff offers a 13th gold medal to France during these Paralympic Games, the fifth for the Blues of cycling.
