Pernod Ricard signs a partnership with PSG (and alienates the Marseillais)

FOOTBALL – This is news that Marseille fans would have liked to do without. On Monday, September 2, Paris Saint-Germain announced via a press release published on its X account (formerly Twitter) a partnership with the alcoholic beverage company Pernod Ricard. The flagship product of the group, whose headquarters is in Marseille, is of course the famous Pastis. And some have sworn to stop consuming it.

At Real Madrid, Kylian Mbappé discovers the relentless pressure… of the sports press

The four-year contract will make the group the sole supplier of champagne and spirits to PSG and will cover all of its professional teams. Pernod Ricard thus becomes a global partner of the team… Except in France, where the Évin law prohibits the association between alcohol brands and sports clubs.

This announcement is having a hard time going down well in the Phocaean city. Indeed, Marseille internet users are outraged by this affiliation between the emblematic drink of their city and the sworn enemy of the capital. Shame on you @PernodRicard “, one of them says on X. “My life is falling apart”adds another.

Within hours, a #boycottPernodRicard hashtag had already been created and OM supporters were calling for people to consume other brands of pastis that did not “betray” their hometown. An anti-Ricard stadium chant, still shared on X, has even already seen the light of day. It remains to be seen whether this one will soon be taken up at the Stade Vélodrome.
