“It was the goal of a lifetime”, Hanquinquant savors his gold medal the day after his title

The announced favorite, Alexis Hanquinquant answered the call. The flag bearer of the French delegation was crowned Paralympic champion in PTS4 para-triathlon this Monday in Paris, with more than two minutes in advance. Already crowned in Tokyo, the 38-year-old athlete continues to dominate his discipline.

“I flew thanks to the public”

“It looks easy like that on paper,” joked Hanquinquant this Tuesday on RMC, during the Apolline matin show. “I am obviously very satisfied with this result! I came to Paris as a conqueror, I had warned and announced, and in a way, I had to assume. I did not necessarily think I would win with such a lead over the second but I was in Paralympic form, it showed!”

Under the sun, the crowd came out in force to watch the various para-triathlon events. “I also flew thanks to the public, which was numerous and incredible,” the gold medalist savored. “The next day, we are obviously very happy with the work accomplished. It was the goal of a lifetime, I had to not miss it. This medal represents a lot of sacrifices and I dedicate it to my family. It’s nice to savor that with the French public.”

“We prove that we are a nation of sport and supporters”

After the success of the Olympic Games, the Paralympic Games are extending the great popular celebration in Paris. French athletes are also achieving convincing results and France has already equalled its record for titles at the Paralympic Games, with 11 gold medals. This Tuesday, the Blues are provisionally fifth in the medal rankings, ahead of the objective of the top 8.

“I’m really happy with these Games, we’re proving that we’re a nation of sports and supporters, it’s really nice,” Alexis Hanquinquant added. “We often criticize ourselves but we also have to congratulate ourselves. Now, I’m going to take on my role as flag bearer, I’m going to take a little tour of the Stade de France this Tuesday to support Nantenin Keita (the other flag bearer). I’m going to go and encourage all the delegations, we’re in the starting blocks to go for this top 8. I’m very happy to contribute to this ranking, we’re going to have to make our voices heard again.”
