Mike Tyson still arouses as much fervor. Considered one of the greatest boxers of all time, he received from the hands of the former Belgian boxer, Marc Duvinage, the Gold Glove of Honor of the Academy. The youngest world champion in the heavyweight category was greeted with a long ovation that touched “the artist of the rings.”
“The star of action films, Jean-Claude Van Damme himself, welcomed his friend Mike Tyson to Belgium in a video from Hong Kong, stating that the Golden Gloves Academy, of which he is the Honorary President, honored him for his magnificent career”, indicates the “Gants d’Or 2023” in a press release.
Mike Tyson is the third personality to receive the Golden Glove of Honor. French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo was honored in 2019 and Oscar-winning Hollywood director Claude Lelouch received the same award in 2022.
An auction took place during the evening. His boxing gloves, his shorts and a portrait of the legendary boxer by Belgian artist Vincent Lenaerts were notably offered. The profits were donated to “Think Pink”, which fights breast cancer, the organization said.
