Vincent Van Trier has decided to sell Villa Leuven in November 2021. “I learned from friends that Mr. De Munck was very interested in taking over the club”, he explains in the columns of HLN. The man in question, Jordy De Munck, presented himself as a young entrepreneur from Antwerp who had already made a lot of money thanks to Villa Antwerp. “During the confinements linked to the Covid, we had planned to renovate the club. And that’s when Mr. De Munck came forward. Soon after, clubs were allowed to reopen. So we had to act quickly.”
The confidence was there. He had even got to know the staff by hosting expensive dinner parties.

De Munck seemed like a trustworthy partner. “During the weeks we talked about the recovery, the guy spent around 100,000 euros in our clubs. One expensive bottle after another, paid for the same night. So we knew he had the means. Surely someone that crazy must have been ready to pull out the checkbook for the buyout of the box. At least, that’s what we thought…”
Things were slowly falling into place. “The confidence was there. He had even got to know the staff by hosting expensive dinner parties. He constantly wanted to meet with us to discuss strategy and even offered to take over Villa Anvers. But in my memories, there was no project at this level”. Everything therefore seemed ready for the takeover and transformation of Villa Leuven.
“And then, suddenly, the buyer made a 180 degree turn,” says Vincent Van Trier. “We never saw the payments for the actual recovery. Through our lawyer Omar Souidi, we insisted that the buyer pay before the box was reopened. A few days later, it turned out that all payment receipts had been forged using emails from scammers posing as bank managers. So we took action against Jordy De Munck, including declaring him in default, but he still managed to organize an illegal party at the club.
The boss of Villa Leuven then understood that he was not the only victim of this scammer. “We are not the only ones to have fallen into the trap. He asked his own friends to carry out renovations at the club for 20,000 euros. But when it was time to pay them, there was no one left. He also defrauded our DJs and our usual artists”, continues Vincent Van Trier. “We are now trying to get our money back through the courts. It really feels like we’ve been dealing with some kind of Tinder scammer. It could make a good script for a Netflix movie or series.” The boss concludes: “I really think he believes his own lies.” Jordy De Munck must now explain himself to the Leuven court.
