Gallagher will take a big step forward

Brendan Gallagher has the CH tattooed on his heart and it is in the only uniform he has worn in the NHL that he will play his 800e career match on Thursday.

“It’s a nice round number, but it’s just a number and I hope there are many more to come,” he began by saying in the team locker room after training Wednesday afternoon.

“I have often said, I feel very lucky to be in this city because I only have positive memories here. I know I’m lucky to experience this here.”

He is not the only player on the team who will reach a significant number in his career.

«Devo [Christian Dvorak] will play his 500e match so it’s going to be fun to experience it together.”

A worker

At 32 years old, the one who was a pick of 5e ronde (147e) of the Canadian in 2010 reached an important milestone and is intended to be an inspiration within a young team.

“He is an outstanding worker and we know that the team logo comes before his name. We know he will be there for every match, but it’s really his work that impresses me.”

Martin St-Louis begins to know Gallagher well and knows what kind of man he is dealing with.

“The way Gally [Gallagher] plays, I can guarantee you that out of 800, I don’t know how many there are that it’s really 100%. To get to these numbers, you have to be mentally and physically strong, you have to be able to take a little pain and I take my hat off to him.

And Gallagher achieves all this in a market that can sometimes be merciless, but his style of play has allowed him to be favored by the public, believes St-Louis.

“It’s not an easy market, easy for the players, but it’s a market that will respect the guys who come forward and Gally has done that his whole career. He will give everything he has every match and when you do that, the public respects you a lot.

Inspirations

Gallagher had 229 goals and 216 assists for 445 points in his first 799 NHL games.

If he was able to register over time, it is because he was well surrounded when he took his first steps among the professionals.

“I wouldn’t be here without the teammates and coaches I worked with during my first seasons. Georgia [Josh Gorges] and Gio [Brian Gionta] and a few other players helped me a lot.

“Everyone made it easy for me so I could focus on hockey and learning, I was able to learn with Pleky [Tomas Plekanec].»
